EVA MÜLLER

MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

BIO. Evamaria Müller’s soundscapes continuously explore new compositional approaches to investigate the complex composition of — and relationship to — our environment through field recordings and sound experiments with found objects. The work examines the formation of landscapes and the associated natural, technical, and cultural processes of mixing, highlighting the voices contained within through direct engagement with the places visited, their histories, and their acoustic signatures.

(2025)
Kinetic Soundsculpture

The kinetic sound sculptures are systems of attentive listening, translation and physical activation. Sound is not treated as an isolated medium, but as something that emerges through contact — between materials, forces, bodies and environments. A central aspect of the work is the fragmentation and reconfiguration of complex auditory experiences by translating environmental processes into sonic layers that are activated through kinetic structures, motors, air currents or unstable balances. The sculptures function as micro-ecosystems: trembling constellations of objects, found materials, mechanical actors and organic references. The works exist in a state of becoming, in which instability and vulnerability are essential qualities.

Stromsinfonie (2024)
Stereocomposition for Field Recordings

‘Stromsinfonie’ is a fugue-like composition for field recordings: drones from hydroelectric power stations on the River Ill meet the noise of water movements in connection with the power station processes. The composition utilizes the rhythmic and tonal qualities of these field recordings to create a structured yet organic soundscape. The repetitive and pulsating sounds of the power stations contrastwith the flowing and bubbling movements of the water through variations in tempo, dynamics and timbre to create a complex and constantly changing soundscape. The opposing voices in the composition each dominate one speaker. The composition tells of the power and dynamics of water and is at the same time a reflection on the relationship between humans and the environment, an exploration of the river hybrid Ill.

This Landscape
(2023-2024)
Live Soundscape

‘This Landscape’ examines landscape as a cultural construction shaped by perception and formed through history, memory, and representation. The research performance investigates the figure of the locus amoenus and its persistence in contemporary modes of perception, particularly within tourism, where landscapes are overlaid with visual expectations and idealized images. These visual regimes prioritize recognizability and surface, shaping how landscapes are seen, consumed, and valued. In contrast to this dominance of visibility, the project employs sound as a counter-model: Field recordings, tape loops, synthesizers, sound objects and voice form an acoustic landscape.
